Last week,
we had the pleasure of welcoming a group of bright pupils from a local primary
school, who visited us to learn how we operate as a business. From the initial
spark of product design through to marketing, picking, packing, and dispatching
from our warehouse - they enjoyed a behind-the-scenes look at the full journey.
Their visit was part of the Swansea Primary School Enterprise Challenge, a fantastic initiative where students will create and sell their own products on a market stall in Swansea City Centre.
During their
visit, the pupils spent time with our buying and design team to follow the
journey of one of our bestselling products – the frog mug. They learned how the
initial idea began on a mood board during a product development meeting, where
early concepts and themes were explored. The team then explained how the design
came to life, including the use of colour palettes.
The pupils also discovered how a sample is developed, the process of sourcing the best price from our trusted suppliers in China, and the importance of balancing cost with quality. Finally, they learned about the logistics involved in ensuring the product arrives at our warehouse on time, considering freight, shipping routes, and delivery timelines.
Next, the
pupils joined our marketing team for an interactive session all about how we
promote our products. They began by learning what marketing really means and
how we spread the word about our bestselling frog mug as soon as it arrived in
stock. The team explained the importance of keywords – what they are, why they
matter for search visibility, and how we carefully include them in product
descriptions to make items more appealing to customers.
The pupils even took part in a fun exercise, coming up with their own keywords to describe the frog mug - and they did a fantastic job! They also learned about the power of promotions and how strategic offers can encourage customers to buy more.
To round off
their visit, the pupils spent time in our warehouse, where they got a close-up
look at the logistics side of the business. They watched a container being
unloaded and were amazed to learn just how many boxes and items can arrive in a
single shipment. The team demonstrated how products are picked from stock and
carefully packed for dispatch.
The pupils also learned about our use of eco-friendly hex wrap and why it's important to wrap items with care to prevent damage during transit. To put their learning to the test, they even carried out a drop test to check that the packaging kept everything safe. Finally, they discovered how an order is prepared for delivery, which was a great way for them to see how everything they’d learned throughout the day comes together to ensure our customers receive their products quickly and safely.
The day highlighted how everyone has their own unique talent to contribute, and how teamwork is essential to make a business run successfully. It was an absolute joy having them with us, and we wish them the very best of luck with their project! 💜
